Disable Right Click

Red Summer's Request

I'm sorry my friends for not posting as often as possible like before. Frankly, I'm quite busy lately. I'm about to create a new blog with my very own domain name. After buying the domain name, I'm stuck with a dilemma. One side of me would like this new blog to be hosted with Blogger, while the other side of me keep on urging me to move on to other hosting using WordPress. Please, give me some suggestions, my friends. I really need your help right now as I can't make up my mind.

For your informations, as of right now I'm the owner of, not one but two brand new domain names. Actually, I only bought only one for myself and the other one was a gift from a dear friend. I'm gonna post about how I've gotten myself a brand new domain name on my next post. It's a very interesting story. So, stay tune my friends. I'm sure you're not gonna miss this exciting story, are you? Please consider to subscribe to this blog full feed RSS to avoid yourself from missing future useful informations that gonna be published on this blog.

I've bought the said domain name from GoDaddy using the money I earned from both of my blogs. I know it ain't much when compared to those A-listed bloggers, but it is still progressing. Even though it's only a few hundred US Dollar per month, I'm very please and grateful for that. Now I can tell to those who are skeptical about making money online, especially when I said, "I am earning my living from the Internet".

Before I proceed any further, I would like to apologize to those who have sent me their request, asking me questions pertaining Blog*Spot, Blogosphere and many other topics, I shall give my answers on my next coming posts. I beg you, please be patient, it will be answered as soon as possible. For today's post, the request came from the lovely Miss Red Summer.

It so happened that she has been trying to contact me at Cari's forum, a local forum which I actively participate. She even accused me of ignoring her when I didn't reply both her Private Messages (PM). Hey, come on guys. How could I ignored such a pretty girl like Miss Summer? I could have come running, leaving everything behind if I heard she called out my name, ;-)

Anyway, she wanted to know whether I can disable mouse right click's function. To disable right click will prevent spammers especially the guys from stealing her images and photos. I remember when I started blogging, I implemented this disable right click's function on my blogs. Then I realized, even I cannot copy anything on my own blogs to paste on other medium. It was too troublesome, and I deleted the scripts later.

Even though I manage to disable right click on my blogs, there are still ways for the computer savvy spammers to steal my contents, images and whatnot. It will only slow down the unsavvy computer literate, lol!

Okay, without further ado since you asked for it, Miss Summer, you got it. Here's the scripts;

//Simply add the code below to the <BODY> section of your template:

<script language=JavaScript>
<!--

var message="Function Disabled!";

///////////////////////////////////
function clickIE4(){
if (event.button==2){
alert(message);
return false;
}
}

function clickNS4(e){
if (document.layers||document.getElementById&&!document.all){
if (e.which==2||e.which==3){
alert(message);
return false;
}
}
}

if (document.layers){
document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);
document.onmousedown=clickNS4;
}
else if (document.all&&!document.getElementById){
document.onmousedown=clickIE4;
}

document.oncontextmenu=new Function("alert(message);return false")

// -->
</script>

For the purpose of this post, I've implemented the above script of codes on this blog's template. Please try to right click anywhere on this blog. Ha! Ha! Ha! Got'cha!

As a bonus for you Miss Summer, here is another great tool from my favourite WebSite, DynamicDrive. With this tool, you can stop people from hot-linking your images. This is what they have to say;

Disable Hotlinking

This tool generates the appropriate .htaccess code to disable hot linking of common file types from other sites, so only your own domain(s) are allowed to reference/ access them. For example, by disabling hotlinking on .gif files, any site not within the allowed list of domains will get a broken image when they try to reference a .gif file that's on your server.

That's it for now. If you've any trouble with this scripts, shoot me an email. I shall get back to you as soon as possible.

Before I took my leave, here's The News Room bringing you awesome news on your blog. Enjoy it, my friends. Enjoy both scripts and news.

For those who are new here, my other blog which I always referred affectionately as my Flag-Ship can be read here, My Journey To Recovery. This is a PR4 blog which deal mostly about my journey from being a drug addict to recovery.

Buying your own domain is the best thing you could have done. Good luck with it. I have my own domain and use Wordpress on it and I love it.

ArahMan7,
I'm also in the same dilemma. Right now, my blog has PR3 and it's hosted on blogger's server somehwere i don't know where. I thought to move my content to my own server using FTP publishing. But as i tried, i came to learn, there are certain disadvantages:

-i'll loose my PR
-i've to work on classic template
-i won't even have a widget..

Then i thought to change to Wordpress but again, the PR issue came. And hassle of importing/exporting XML files..

then, i made a decision not to move my content to my ftp server. Even if i buy so called FTP server, it's not mine, it's just virtually mine giving access to me with few account/password. So, thought, ahh let it be with the blogger, i don't have to worry about bandwidth too.

and yeah, to make your blog more authentic to you, you can use custom domain. When you buy domain, from the domain control admin, redirect your DNS to google's and from bloggers dashboard, you can use the custom domains.. only if you wish.. but i'm eager to hear what's your planning..

my blog www.meroguff.com is using blogger's server. :)

Right now, PR isn't a big deal- at least to me it isn't. Having your own domain lets readers know you're serious about blogging-advertisers also see this aspect which, in turn, attracts them to your blog. As for hosting- shop around. I would start out with a cheaper plan and go up depending on your storage and bandwith needs. I use DreamHost and even though they've been a pain, I do have to say their support has always been A+ and always respond within hours-and lately within minutes. WordPress is the best platform to go with as far as blogging goes. I tried Movable Type several years ago and quickly switched back to WP. Plus, you have so many people to ask questions if you need help with something.

Oh and Holiday Greetings from the USA :)

Hi ArahMan,
Hope all is going well with the switch to WordPress. It's something I would like to do in the future too! Not sure how soon I will get around to it.
Love the right click tip! Was wondering how that was done.
Thanks for passing by my blog and leaving such kind words. Have a great day!
Susan

In my humble opinion, you can't beat your own domain and hosting, simply cos you retain control, but I'm a control freak so I would think that! Good luck my friend.
